New: Writer Resources Page!

I remember what it was like just starting out. I knew I wanted to write, but I didn’t know where to start.

Over the years, I have amassed quite the list of things that I found helpful — from books to softwares to classes and consultants — and it seems silly to keep all that information to myself. Enter the Writer Resource Page! No commissions, no scams. Just things that I’ve actually used that actually worked.

I have created a free infographic (one of many) about the length of different projects in different mediums, and you can download that here.

I’m also going to be making some free infographics based on the most popular questions I get asked as a working writer. I’ll be continually uploading those, so stay tuned and make sure to subscribe to my email list so you don’t miss any updates!

Classes & Consultants:

  • Lee Jessup. I cannot tell you how much this human being changed my life. I went to her in 2018, hugely pregnant and unsure about my abilities, and she helped me find my screenwriting voice.

  • Kate Angelella at Angelella Editorial. When I came to her for a book edit in 2015, I wasn’t sure if the book had what it takes. She said it did — and she has encouraged me since then. The book is coming out (finally) next year! She’s brilliant, her edits are top notch, and she’s just the best.

  • Script Anatomy. Screenwriting classes taught by working TV Writers. I took the Televisionary Classes in 2018, and the classes helped whip my scripts into shape. I teach there, now, and do all my screenwriting consulting through them!

 CRAFT & INDUSTRY BOOKS:

Programs & Platforms I Use:

  • Scrivener for novels. Progress bar, name generator, chapter tabs, a place for outlining, and it’s cheap? The OG.

  • Final Draft for screenplays. This one is more pricey, but it’s industry standard. You can hold off and use a cheaper option while you’re just starting out, though!

  • Pacemaker Planner: This is a lifesaver for figuring out your word count/page count goals, especially if you want to break down a project into manageable chunks. You can adjust your pace, take days off, and track your progress. A lifesaver.
